3D / three-dimensional: Fantasy shapes made from solid acrylic in low and high relief.

TENSION ANCHORS: side ears that are formed in the application of the reverse technique when the smile line is drawn.

APPLYING: assigning or placing one thing on another, in order to obtain a certain result.

LOW RELIEF: figures forming a sculpted ensemble that does not project out from the surface or a plane. Low relief is usually encapsulated.

ACRYLIC BATH: is the application of a fine layer of acrylic mixed with monomer, for application on a given surface and on repeated small occasions (ordinary manicure service).

SWEEPING THE PRODUCT: making smooth motions, floating the brush over the fresh acrylic, in order to blend or blur.

TWO-TONE: done at the end of an application when we take a small bead and before it dries, we add another solid acrylic of a stronger color, leaving a two-toned bead (used in 3D).

FREE EDGE: is the surface or edge that marks the limit of natural nail growth.

BELT OR STEPS: is the informal name given to a faulty finish or filing of an artificial nail, creating a noticeable thinning or protuberance in the tension anchors.

CONTRAST: visibly noticeable disparity or difference between two textures, applications or decorative details.

CROWN: delineation in bright or solid color structured along the entire length of the smile line from one tension anchor to the other.

SHAPING: is the finishing of the artificial nail, achieved by the final filing that creates perfectly symmetrical and straight lines.

CURING: the process by which gel is exposed to UV rays for a predetermined period of time in order to obtain sheen.

SHADING: is the effect that results from mixing two or more colors from the same spectrum at a certain point.

FADING: is the disappearance of the seam between the tip and the natural nail, obtained by applying an abrasive known as a file, for the purpose of concealing any apparent juncture.

BLURRING: is the effect or result of blending two or more colors in such a way that the edge between one and the other cannot be seen.

PUSHING THE CUTICLE: using a tool called the cuticle pusher to push against the cuticle in order to move it or change its position.

ENCAPSULATING: completely covering one or more surfaces, in order to attain a desired effect that aims at enhancing the final result of the application.

OUTLINING: A technique consisting of a thin line made with Organicolor, glitter or collections for delineating textures or colors and creating symmetrical figures or abstract forms.

IMPRESSIONS: are molded shapes or textures created by pressing fresh acrylic with some kind of metallic tool or specialized brush.

FILING: smoothing, polishing or removing the sheen from the natural nail or surface in order to obtain a porous result.

SMILE LINE: curved, U-shaped line formed at the seam between the natural nail and the tip. Line that is accentuated by applying the reverse technique.

MARBLING: is the effect achieved by blending two or more acrylics, applied wet and then mixed with a marbling tip to achieve a veined effect like the inside of a marble.

HIGHLIGHTING: passing solid or bright colors from a different spectrum over a given surface or texture, in order to harmonize with the design or applied shape.

REVERSE TECHNIQUE: technique applied the opposite way from the traditional technique. First the nail's almond is formed, with a clearly delineated smile line.

CAMBER: the highest point or structure of the artificial nail formed at the cross point of the perpendicular lines of the nail's contour, forming an arch along the nail.

PRE-CURING: a process by which the gel is exposed outside the UV lamp, whereby the UV rays just barely fall on the gel, causing it to begin to harden without damaging the natural nail.

POLISHING: removing all excess materials and scratches left by the filing, until a flat, smooth surface is obtained.

EMBOSSING: a 3D application on top of an existing relief, rising above an already defined plane.

RELIEF: anything that can be seen rising above a plane or surface. Raised figure on a smooth surface, with the sculpted part forming a shape.

SPRINKLING: spraying a liquid or solvent in tiny drops.

SANITIZING: refers to the procedure for destroying pathogenic germs or bacteria, i.e., microbes. Antiseptics are recommended for this procedure.

SEALING: evenly spreading out and blurring the product in the cuticle area, leaving a minimum of 1 mm of the natural nail uncovered to prevent lifting.

TEXTURIZING: shaping the (acrylic) material with a metallic tool or brush in order to achieve a porous or lumpy sensation to the touch.
